Colorado Bus Theft Ends in Crash That Left Two Dead

Two people were recently killed and another four were injured when a 20-year-old Aurora man stole a bus and crashed it, according to a local CBS outlet.

Daihauonzadre Brooks-Jones was arrested following the accident, which happened in early November on Highway 83 near Black Forest. Brooks-Jones had stolen the bus earlier that morning, according to local police, and sped off after cops attempted a traffic stop.

66-year-old Sergio Sanchez was killed in the accident while traveling with family to Denver International Airport. His niece told CBS4 that Sanchez was part of a group that had planned to fly to California for a funeral.

Kizzy Aquirre, a 42-year-old Colorado Springs resident, was also killed in the crash.

Police officers did not attempt to chase Brooks-Jones after he ditched the traffic stop earlier in the morning, they said. Cops believe that a combination of speed, alcohol, and drugs may have contributed to the accident.

Four other people remained in the hospital with serious injuries nearly a week after the collision.

Brooks-Jones had a warrant out for his arrest on sex crimes at the time of the accident, CBS4 later reported.

Our Denver Auto Accident Lawyer Can Help You Get Compensation for Your Car Accident Injuries

Although the bus theft accident is a strange scenario, car accidents happen every day throughout Colorado and across the country. When they occur, collisions can cause serious and even fatal injuries.

Our Denver auto accident lawyer knows that Colorado law gives people injured in a car accident the power to seek compensation from those responsible, whether it is a negligent driver, a defective auto parts manufacturer, or a road construction crew that leaves driving surfaces hazardous.

The compensation typically available in Colorado car accident cases includes money for medical bills, property damage, missed wages, and any reduction in earning capacity caused by the crash. Additionally, punitive money damages are also available in certain cases involving particularly reckless behavior.

In the tragic situation in which a person is killed in a car accident, his or her loved ones can seek similar compensation for the wrongful death. Although no amount of money can bring back your loved one, this compensation can ease some of the financial stress that often comes with losing a family member.

It is vital that anyone injured in a car accident in Colorado seek the counsel of an experienced personal injury lawyer
